As an Environmental Management graduate student at the University of Reading, I had the opportunity to conduct a detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) scoping study for one of the most significant developments on campus – the new European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) headquarters. This comprehensive report, prepared as part of my MSc Environmental Management coursework, analyzes the potential environmental impacts of this state-of-the-art facility.
The ECMWF project represents a crucial development in Reading’s scientific landscape, promising to create one of the world’s largest clusters of weather and climate research facilities. My scoping report carefully evaluates key environmental parameters including townscape effects, transport accessibility, air quality, and noise impacts, while considering both the construction and operational phases of the development.
